PROGRESS ON THE REALISATION OF OUR VISION
1] The Wilmslow Parochial Church Council have applied for a Faculty to carry out works in the Church Yard. The Public Notices have been duly posted in the church . the works include providing a connection to the public sewer and minor improvements to access provision and paths in the Church Yard. There are also proposed repairs to the roofs on the North side of the church and repairs and alterations inside the Vestries.
Two memorial monuments are affected :-
1] a] By the access off Cliff Road[formerly Chancel Lane] on the North side of the Church . Memorial to be moved slightly –up to 2 ft further from the access road to avoid possible damage by construction vehicles during building of an extension and roof repairs to the church.
Memorial to Harry Swanwick Kershaw died 1897 , Annie Kershaw died 1917 and Ethel M Kershaw died 1948 .
b] On the North side of the Church and inside an area otherwise clear of memorials to move a memorial approximately three feet to avoid damage during building of the extension to the Church . The memorial is to Annie wife of James Ford of Parkfield Wilmslow died Dec 26th 1909 also of James ford died Aug 27th 1920 aged 2 years.
Also James Desmond Ford RNVR died Jan 6th 1917 aged 19. It is not registered as a War Grave
The last male member of this family is understood to have died in 1942 .
Relatives of either of these families wishing for further details is asked to reply to .demon.uk. Objections need to be sent to Diocesan Registrar Friars White Friars Chester CH1 1XS England before 8th May.
2] The Extension to the Church for which a Faculty will shortly be submitted is to be built on an area which has already been cleared of memorials and where the ground has already been disturbed during Victorian times when a number of memorials were moved and repositioned following the erection of a North Transept to the Church in1862. The foundations of he extension have been designed to avoid disturbance of the ground as far as possible. Our records of locations of memorials in this area are not reliable as records of burial locations . The last recorded date on any memorials stone in this area was one Thomas Potts died Oct 16th 1922 aged 74.
We are having a new survey of the relocated memorial stones shortly. If any user of this web site needs more information please e-mail: david@dgibson.demon.co.uk
A Vision for St Bartholomew's Church
|
St Bartholomew's
Chancel Lane |
St Bartholomew's Church is a visible sign that people have recognised and responded to the presence of God, here in Wilmslow, for hundreds of years. We wish to continue this tradition, while developing St Bartholomew's for a range of activities appropriate to the third millennium.
We plan to use the building for events which can express our relationships with God today:
Above all, it will be a place where ordinary people can share their experiences of the
life they have been given by the God whose nature is Love.
 |
The window over the main altar |
The building and those who use it will model themselves on Jesus Christ by being:
- open as often as possible
- for people of all faiths - and none
- a source of quiet reflection, worship and prayer
- and attractive venue for a wide range of events including:
Music, drama and civic and social gatherings
- a source of hope and confidence in the future
- a resource for individuals and the community
- an information centre for people visiting Wilmslow
- a place where people realise that God is always with them
- a centre which radiates concern for people in trouble near and far
- eternally ALIVE!!
